The BMW X2 is a sports utility vehicle (SAC) and a luxury compact car from the BMW brand. Built on the UKL front-wheel-drive platform, it pioneered the concept of a “Sports Utility Coupe (SAC)”.

The all-new BMW X2, as the second generation of the family, features the latest generation of the BMW operating system and Level 2+ intelligent driver assistance system; it also includes an attention monitoring system and a capacitive steering wheel. The all-new X2 M35i strongly incorporates the M DNA, offering Matte Portimao Blue, Matte Pure Grey, and Storm Grey exterior colors; the M-exclusive Signal Green is also first applied to the all-new X2 M35i. The all-new BMW X2 xDrive25i M Sport Shadow Edition is equipped with a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder turbocharged engine, delivering a maximum output of 150 kW and a peak torque of 300 Nm.

The chassis features all-wheel drive, offering exceptional efficiency.

Exclusivity enthusiasts will find solace in the specific body elements (bumpers, spoiler, exhaust pipes), 20-inch M wheels, and a special interior (sport seats, Alcantara upholstery with blue stitching), which is truly impressive. For even greater flaunting, the M Sport Pro package (€2,000) is still available, including adaptive full LED headlights, Shadow Line exterior trim (gloss black), Motorsport-colored seatbelts, and a pair of super bucket seats with illuminated “M” logos on the backrests. Not to mention the model we tested, the base matte green version starts at €3,950.

BMW X2 Interior and Trunk

The 2024 BMW X2 also abandons the massive “hat”-style dashboard in favor of a streamlined design with a long, curved panel at the top integrating the driver-facing gauges and the central multimedia screen. Familiar? Logically, as this assembly once again comes from the X1. We also discovered that the original floating console overlooks the large storage space between the seats, and several additional storage compartments, each more or less spacious, have been added. The overall materials are of very high quality, with many thoughtful details, such as aluminum inlays or stitching on the interior trim. The M35i version also comes standard with luxurious Alcantara-trimmed sports seats (heated, €400), heat-insulating glass, and a Harman Kardon sound system whose excellent sound will delight music lovers. A beautiful creation…

The modular design is reflected in the 40-20-40 split-backrest and flat floor. Alexander Krasowski

Even though the sloping roof results in a slight loss of rear headroom (it’s impossible to get into the long seats without bending your neck), this “coupe” version of the X1 still offers considerable ride comfort, along with the very practical three-part split and reclining backrest. On the other hand, the sliding long seats have been eliminated, as BMW believes the trunk capacity is more than sufficient. Indeed, depending on whether there’s a battery under the floor (MHEV version), the X2’s usable capacity ranges from 515 to 560 liters, far surpassing its sibling, which is limited to 500 to 540 liters, depending on the bench seat’s position. This is now a “running pants X1” designed for sportiness (flat floor, backrests folded down), whereas the first generation only held 470 liters.

BMW X2 Infotainment System

The latest BMW Digital OS9 infotainment system is modern and responsive, but unfortunately, it remains quite complex to use. The lack of easily accessible shortcuts (except for the overspeed alert) makes it easy to get lost in the menu maze when searching for certain functions. Some actions are repeated every time you start the car (such as overspeed alert and active AFIL). Switching from one driving mode to another (Individual, Efficient, Sport, Sport Upgrade, etc.) also requires too much screen intervention, whereas simple physical controls on the steering wheel or console would allow you to quickly switch between settings without taking your eyes off the road.
