Powertrain/Fuel Consumption

In terms of powertrain, the 2024 Highlander Intelligent Hybrid is equipped with a 2.5L Atkinson cycle engine. As it’s a hybrid-specific model (codename A25D), the Atkinson cycle increases the compression ratio, resulting in better fuel economy compared to gasoline vehicles under stable operating conditions. It’s paired with a fourth-generation THS dual-motor unit, delivering a combined system power of 181kW. Higher trims also feature a rear axle motor, providing an additional 40kW of maximum power output, and support DTV dynamic torque vectoring control (hybrid electric four-wheel drive). The WLTC combined fuel consumption is 5.82-5.97L/100km.

The gasoline version is equipped with a 2.0T turbocharged engine (codename S20A), producing a maximum power of 182kW and a maximum torque of 380Nm. It’s paired with an 8-speed planetary gear transmission from Aisin Seiki and comes standard with an all-wheel drive system. The WLTC combined fuel consumption is 8.74L/100km.
