Buick is an American automobile brand founded in 1903 by David Dunbar Buick. Currently a subsidiary of General Motors, it is positioned in the mid-to-high-end market and uses a “three shields” logo, symbolizing a spirit of progress and innovation.
In 1908, Buick became a core brand of General Motors. In 1948, it pioneered the torque converter-style automatic transmission, and in 1954, together with Oldsmobile, launched the world’s first four-door pillarless hardtop sedan. After entering the Chinese market in 1999 through a joint venture with SAIC General Motors, it launched several best-selling models, such as the GL8 and LaCrosse. Following General Motors’ restructuring in 2009, Buick remained a core brand. In September 2018, its cumulative sales in the Chinese market exceeded 10 million units. In 2022, the brand underwent a refresh, releasing a new logo and strategic new models such as the GL8 Century and Electra-X. In December of the same year, it launched its first mass-produced model, the Electra E5. In April 2023, the ELECTRA E5 was officially launched, followed by the all-electric coupe SUV ELECTRA E4 in June. In April 2024, the GL8 LuZun PHEV plug-in hybrid model was released, and in December, the premium large five-seater SUV Envision Plus (2025 model) was launched. In April 2025, it launched its new energy sub-brand “Zhijing”. With quality and technology at its core, Buick’s product line includes sedans, SUVs, MPVs, and new energy vehicles, with over 50 million cumulative users worldwide.
